Poker Terms - Suited Connectors
The term suited connectors simply means two hole cards of the same suit that, combined with three other particular cards can make a straight. In other words it takes three cards or less to connect them in terms of ranking, for example 5 7 suited.
Suited connectors are a favourable hand because they have a decent chance of making either a flush or a straight. Their good hands for playing against someone you believe has a big pair in a deep stacked situation because if you hit a good flop you have a strong chance of winning a big pot. These sort of hands are better for use in cash games than tournaments generally due to their ability to make really strong hands such as straights, flushes and well disguised trips. In poker tournaments and SNG’s it’s often correct to get all your money in with an overpair or top pair, top kicker. In cash games though this can be a fast track to going broke, therefore hands like AK go down in value and suited connectors go way up.
